Playing Cards is Serious Business Requiring Collaboration

When building a winning hand, you likely aren’t giving much thought to where those cards came from. The chances are that Cartamundi made the deck.

For more than 250 years, Cartamundi has been a leading global manufacturer of Playing Cards, Trading Cards & Board Games, including Monopoly, Pokémon and Trivial Pursuit.

So when Cartamundi went to acquire The United States Playing Card Company (USPC), they turned to MI member in Belgium, Van Cutsem Wittamer Marnef & Partners with a simple question, ‘Who can we trust in Indiana, USA?’ Without hesitation, they were referred to Bose McKinney & Evans LLP to help with navigating regulatory approval in the US.

USPC, established in 1861, is one of the most iconic brands in America. Its brands include Bicycle, Bee, Tally-Ho, Congress, Hoyle, Aviator, Aristocrat and KEM.

The Cartamundi acquisition required gaming regulatory approval in multiple states. Led by Gregory Hahn Bose handled the work in Indiana. It worked closely with other MI member counsel to ensure consistency among the various jurisdictions as another example of MI lawyers making connections beyond the legal and, ultimately, smoothing wrinkles across state lines.
