Litigation Practice Group Call

10th July, 8 am PDT (4 pm UK BST) and 8 pm PDT (11am Hong Kong on 11th July)

Thursday 10 Jul 2025, 08:00 - 21:00

Please join one of our two Litigation PG Calls on 10th July at either 8am Pacific US (4pm UK BST) or 8pm Pacific US (11am Hong Kong on 11th July) to catch up with the Litigation PG members around the globe.

We’ve scheduled two calls to make sure that as many people as possible around the globe (as well as the Chairs of the group dialling in from West Coast USA) get a chance to join the call which best suits their time-zone. The content will be the same, so you only need to join one. The 8am Pacific US call will be suitable for all time zones eastwards across USA and through to Eastern Europe, whilst the 8pm Pacific US call  (11am Hong Kong time) the following day (11th July) is suitable for other jurisdictions from Middle East to Australia

Topic:

The right to a trial by jury is a cornerstone of the American legal system and has roots in English common law and the Magna Carta.  Experienced trial lawyers will tell you, however, that they are often surprised by the things that affected their decision, not mention their ultimate decisions.

Studies show that jury decision making is influenced by a complex interplay of factors, including pre-existing biases, psychological and cognitive factors, and emotional responses, in addition to the presentation of evidence and arguments.  We as trial lawyers cannot control all of these factors, but we are responsible for the presentation of evidence and arguments.

During the call, we’d like to get as many of you on, and hear about and discuss, what works and what doesn’t when it comes to presenting evidence, including with the use of expert witnesses.  There are many experienced trial attorneys in the group and we look forward to hearing from those willing to share what they have learned from their own experiences, (and from their opposing counsel).  We hope you will make time for what we hope will be a very interesting, informative and entertaining discussion.

As usual, we’ll set aside a little time at the end for anyone to bring up topics or issues they would like to discuss, and finally to suggest topics for future meetings.
